Virginia McCormick

August 6, 1941 - June 22, 2026

Virginia (Jinnie) McCormick passed away on June 22, 2026 at an Aegis Assisted Living Center in Seattle, WA at the age of 84. She is survived by Chuck McCormick, her husband of 56 years, son Scott McCormick, daughter Sarah Anne McCormick, granddaughter Gwendolyne King, and brothers Jim Elsea (Seattle) and Scott Elsea (Findlay, Ohio).

Jinnie was the daughter of Scott and Virginia Elsea of Findlay, Ohio. She graduated with a BA from Ohio Wesleyan University. After living a brief time in Boulder Colorado near her beloved older sister Jane, her adventures next took her to Boston, where she worked as a Play Therapist  at Boston Children’s Hospital. She married Chuck in the Harvard Memorial Church and they lived in Jakarta, Beirut, and London for Chuck’s work.

Chuck and Jinnie moved their family to Seattle in 1981. From there they traveled near and far with life-long university friends. Jinnie’s home-based adventures turned to gourmet cooking and flower arranging. Holiday meals at her table were like Martha Stuart shows of Julia Child’s recipes.

Jinnie adapted well to life in the Northwest, including cycling with the Cascade Bicycle Club and hiking with the Mountaineers. She started a successful floral business called “Gatherings from the Garden” and enhanced the beauty of tables in local restaurants and private homes. She has known the joy of success but also the sorrow of tragedy, having grieved the deaths of two children and one grandchild.

Jinnie loved shopping at thrift stores for cute outfits for herself, her daughter and her granddaughter. She enjoyed gardening, often until after dusk, in a front yard that resembled a mini-arboretum. She always remembered birthdays and anniversaries with homemade cards made from cut out magazine letters, words and pictures that sometimes looked like friendly ransom notes. She was an excellent mother, guardian, and life coach for her daughter Sarah Anne.

We will miss her. A celebration of life is planned but not yet scheduled.
