Ellen and Arun visiting us in Palo Alto -Stanford University

Posted by Raman & Anjoo Mehra on January 20, 2026

We met Ellen in 1969 when Arun and Ellen were dating each other and participated in their marriage at MIT Chapel followed by a reception at our apartment in Stoneham in 1969.We saw them as a perfect couple with love and respect for each other, their families and friends. We have been fortunate to be their close friends since 1969 and did many trips together both in the Boston and Seattle areas.Ellen was always very warm, charming ,gracious and hospitable.Ellen and Arun attended the weddings of all our children and always showed great interest in them and their children. They were truly an integral part of our extended family and Ellen related beautifully to the culture and customs of India .She had endless curiosity and openness and travelled all over the world with Arun.We used to joke that they probably hold the record for the number of cruises they had taken on all continents. We will always miss Ellen's beautiful smiles, graciousness ,keen sense of humor and endless curiosity.May her soul rest in eternal heavenly peace.Om Shanti Om (Divine Peace and Tranquility to All) Raman and Anjoo Mehra

Ellen had an incredible sense of humor. She collected small smooth stones. She and I were driving up the Pacific Coast and came to a beach that where the stones she loved proliferated. The problem was what a sign forbad collection. Ellen was normally a law abiding person, but she had her limits. By the time we left the beach her pockets were heavy. Then she began to stuff stones in her bra. We were laughing so hard we wet our pants. That happened frequently with Ellen. Like the time we tried to play golf., doubling over laughing. We finally walked back to the clubhouse after the third hole. The people's following us were much relieved.

A memory I hold in my heart from so many years ago... it's a gift for kids when a relative comes to visit who is playful and bright. This was our Aunt Ellen. Such anticipation for her visit; she brought a greater world to us, young kids running barefoot in a small southern town. She was so cool, so fun, and she lit our mother (her sister Dorothy) up. Laughing and dancing and singing with Peter Paul and Mary, stretching to high notes of Joan Baez. More laughter. Much gratitude for her love of life and family.

Ellen was so loving, caring, and fun to be around. She always took a real interest in each of us and had this way of making you feel important. We’re grateful for every moment we got to share with her. She’ll be deeply missed.

My dear Aunt Ellen had a laugh that I can still hear. She made you know she cared by asking questions and truly listening to your response. She filled my world and everyone’s she knew with kindness and joy. Our hearts are feeling this so deeply, because she was the person who filled it with so much.

Ellen was the kindest and funniest great-aunt that I was fortunate enough to have in my life for 26 years. I will miss her deeply, but she left so much love behind for us to hold onto. I love you Aunt Ellen!

This is a beautiful obituary, and so true! Ellen was favorite aunt to me and my four siblings. She was so kind and fun and generous. She loved us from when we were infants. She had a loving heart and a pure soul, always doing the right thing. She and my Uncle Arun generously supported worthy causes and honest candidates for office. She was a beautiful lady inside and out. Ellen made the world a better place.
