Anne Perry Floyd, a devoted mother, pioneering nurse, and the cherished elder of her family, passed away peacefully at her home in Seattle, Washington, on September 4, 2026. She was 91 years old.

Born on March 18, 1935, Anne was the youngest of 16 children. While she lived in Seattle for the final 15 years of her life, her heart always belonged to Louisburg, North Carolina. It was there that she grew up, and it was the place she constantly returned to for real ham, authentic Southern barbecue and fish fry, and the fresh country air that centered her.

Though she deeply loved her country roots, Anne knew early on that farming was not her calling. Driven by a desire to see the world and help others, she pursued a career in nursing that would span nearly 50 years. During her decades as a nurse, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she caught James Brown in his prime and marched alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the historic March on Washington. Later, in Los Angeles, she showed her characteristic compassion by caring for early AIDS patients at a time when few others would.

Anne was passionate about education and read avidly throughout her life. She loved her murder mysteries and Harlequin romance stories. In her younger days, she enjoyed a stiff drink and her trademark red shoes.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Jacqueline (Jackie) and Cassandra (Robin); her son, Anthony; her daughters-in-law, Wendy and Susie; and a vast, adoring host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her son Robert and her 15 brothers and sisters. Anne’s legacy of resilience, love, and service will be remembered forever by all who knew her.
