Share your Memorial with Family & Friends
Trice was the only child of Zenobia and Max Scoggins. She spent her childhood in Richland, Washington, and her high school years in Glastonbury, Connecticut.
In 1975, Trice was a member of the first graduating class of The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. During her time there she studied philosophy, founded the women’s center, co-chaired a women’s art festival and met her surviving husband, Ned (Swift), with whom she had two children and shared the remaining 51 years of her life. They worked together the next ten years in the struggle for social justice forging deep and lasting friendships with comrades that Trice continued to nourish and cherish through the final days of her life.
Growing up to a large extended family in Richland, Washington, Trice became a de facto daughter and sister to many and continued to treasure and nurture these relationships well beyond childhood. Likewise, Ned’s parents, brothers and sisters became her own. For an only child, Trice departed this world with a remarkable number of siblings.
In 1990, Trice and Ned moved from Los Angeles to Spokane, Washington, where they built Swift Transcription Company. Trice’s role as CEO propelled Swift Transcription to become the largest medical transcription company based in the Pacific Northwest and the recipient of numerous awards. Even after they sold the company in 1997, Trice remained in touch with many former colleagues until her passing, a testament to the bonds she forged in every aspect of her life.
In 2000, Trice and Ned moved to Seattle, Washington, then, in 2013, to Pleasanton, California. In 2019, following Ned’s retirement, Trice and Ned moved back to Seattle to be closer to their daughters and their grandchildren. Throughout all of these moves, Trice continued to build new communities of friends and loved ones wherever she went.
Trice is survived by her husband, Ned Swift, daughters Billie Swift (Dustin Norlander) and Kaeli Swift, her grandchildren Charlie Swift and Gus Norlander, and her beloved dog, Pepper.
In honor of her boundless love, a celebration of life will be held in Richland, WA on June 20th.
Memorials preferred to Rainier Valley Food Bank and The Patrice Swift Memorial Fund for Palestine.
