George would have had the answer to how I sent these photos upside down for sure..He would have said: 'Simple, you use a Mac Mike!' George had a sincere love for boats. He had one he worked on for years he worked on near Fremont. This is him out on a sail in the sound on a boat with the Rafn SPG team on Kim Bottles satl boat. You can see he felt at home behind the wheel. Dan was there for the ride was well. George was a workmate for nearly 30 years and loved him dearly. He was a master craftsmen, as he had his fingers in nearly every trade. I was so glad when he met Lisa as she was really able to fulfill his life with love and the perfect mate for him. He was so fortunate to have found her late in his life. You are missed mister Hoover.

As others have said, George was a deeply philosophical and thoughtful man. Also, he loved the company of others. But, he was not a religious man. Yet he joined us over many years at Passover Seders and Chanukah dinners, graciously joining in and being fully present. We will miss him at these events, at dinners with friends, and when we need some practical advice about how things really work. We will miss him. Lisa, know that our love is with you.

I always thought of George as the philosopher. He would often tilt his head to the side as would answer a question, pause a moment and then supply a deep answer. RIP George.

Just over two weeks ago my oldest and dearest friend, George Hoover, passed away due to complications from a heart procedure. We were friends from the first grade onward, and our lives were inextricably intertwined through high school and college years. Within months of each other we independently decided to move to Seattle, which began another phase of our friendship. We were both construction people and George joined me in working for the Rafn Company, a commercial general contractor specializing in historic renovations downtown. George was a phenomenal craftsman and a very creative problem solver. He met Lisa Siegel and they have spent the last 30 years together, and Lisa has become a dear friend of ours over the years. Gayle and I would see them on our summer pilgrimages to our cabin on the Olympic Peninsula, a cabin George helped me build. We would discuss and share pictures of our projects with each other over the years and I would always feel as though George was my carpenter angel sitting on my shoulder, and help guide me through a problem or inspire me in my process. I will miss his companionship and unconditional love for the rest of my life.

Unbeknownst to each other, George and I both moved up to Seattle within 3 months of each other. This photo was taken in Cambria.

George embodied 'Mensch.' There are a few people in my life I try to channel when faced with a tough problem. George is one. I find myself mentally asking myself, "What would George do?" Mary and I miss him.
