C. June Sauriol, 90, passed away on February 11, 2022, surrounded by her family.

June was born in Ridgefield, Washington in 1931 to Irene and Arlie Humphrey, who had come west from Arkansas shortly after marrying. She grew up in Ridgefield along with three sisters, Vonda, Dee, and Melva, and one brother, Lloyd. June attended Ridgefield High School, home of the Spudders. She loved her home town and had a large extended family there.

In 1959 she married Al Sauriol, moved to Tacoma and started a family. They lived in their Day Island home for 55 years; it was a place where they shared their sense of humor, love of nature, and great cooking with family and friends.

In addition to raising her two daughters, June worked at various jobs, did volunteer work with adoptive babies, developmentally disabled children, and did fundraising for environmental causes. She put intelligence and creativity into her work and hobbies, which included quilting, doll-making and gardening. She always had good ideas for activities for the many children who visited over the years, including her beloved granddaughter, Mimi.

Still a dynamo in her later years, June worked at a nursery, Jan’s Plants, into her early eighties. She was a devoted caretaker to her mother, two sisters, and her husband Al, at the end of their lives. Even near the end of her own life, she would hold out her hands and ask, “How can I help?”

June is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Tom), and Lisa, and her granddaughter, Mimi. She was dear to many people and will be greatly missed. At June’s request, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
