Paul Minier of Vashon Island died from complications of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) on October fifth. Raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, Paul graduated from Edinboro College (Pennsylvania) and then headed west to teach in Los Angeles, where he met Pat, his wife of 54 years. They lived on Vashon and in West Seattle before building their home on Vashon. He was an inspiring math teacher for 31 years at Madison Middle School in West Seattle. Paul was also an accomplished artist, avid traveler, boater and golfer, and was known for his beautiful yard and immaculate cars.

Over the years, he organized many events and trips for family, friends, and students – including cruises, road rallies, numerous school trips, and wine tastings – and enjoyed the planning as much as the good times. He was especially proud of helping to enroll Vashon Island Golf and Swim Club in King County’s land conservation program, ensuring that the course where he played many rounds with friends will remain available for others.

In addition to Pat, Paul is survived by their daughters Jenny (Josh Ederington) and Megan (Kevin Wing), and grandchildren Sam, Lucy, Max, and Molly. He is also survived by his siblings Dottie Knight and Dick Minier.
Celebrations of Paul’s life will be ongoing – during good meals with great company, rounds of best ball with old and new friends, appreciation of natural and wild places, and time spent with family.
